Cervical

Acupressure is often used to relieve cervical (neck) pain, tension, and stiffness by stimulating specific points in the body that target muscle relaxation, improved circulation, and nerve function. Here are some acupressure points that can help with cervical pain or issues related to the cervical spine:

Acupressure Points for Cervical Pain:

1. GB20 (Fengchi)

  • Location: At the base of the skull, in the hollows on either side of the spine.
  • How to use: Use both thumbs to apply pressure in the depressions at the base of the skull. Hold the pressure for 1-2 minutes while breathing deeply.
  • Benefits: Relieves neck stiffness, tension headaches, and cervical pain.

2. GB21 (Jianjing)

  • Location: On the shoulders, halfway between the neck and the shoulder joint.
  • How to use: Press firmly with your fingers or thumb for about 1 minute. Be careful not to apply too much  pressure if you're pregnant.
  • Benefits: Reduces neck and shoulder tension, helping with stiffness and pain in the cervical area.

3. LI4 (Hegu)

  • Location: Between the thumb and index finger on the back of the hand.
  • How to use: Apply firm pressure to the fleshy part between the thumb and index finger for 1-2 minutes.
  • Benefits: Known for relieving all types of pain, including neck pain and headaches. It helps promote circulation and reduce inflammation.

4. SI3 (Houxi)

  • Location: On the outside of the hand, right below the little finger, near the edge of the palm.
  • How to use: Apply gentle pressure for 1-2 minutes. You can massage in a circular motion for additional relief.
  • Benefits: Helps alleviate neck stiffness and pain related to the cervical vertebrae, particularly if the pain radiates into the shoulders and arms.

5. LU7 (Lieque)

  • Location: On the inside of the forearm, about 1.5 inches above the wrist crease, in the hollow between the two tendons.
  • How to use: Apply gentle pressure or massage in circular motions for about 1 minute on each side.
  • Benefits: Helps alleviate neck pain, tension, and respiratory issues that might worsen cervical discomfort.

6. BL10 (Tianzhu)

  • Location: On the back of the neck, about 1 inch from the base of the skull, on both sides of the spine.
  • How to use: Apply firm pressure to the points on both sides of the neck, holding for about 1 minute.
  • Benefits: This point is beneficial for neck stiffness, tension headaches, and relieving pain radiating from the cervical spine.

Additional Tips:

  • Apply gentle, steady pressure: Start with light pressure and increase gradually, always listening to your body’s response.
  • Deep breathing: Practice slow, deep breathing while applying acupressure to enhance relaxation and effectiveness.
  • Repeat as needed: You can apply acupressure multiple times throughout the day to maintain relief.

If the cervical pain is severe or persistent, consult a healthcare professional to rule out any serious underlying conditions.
